I was only 25 when I found I had a herniated disc at C5-6, and pain was shooting
down my left arm. When I was told by a neurologist that I could have
the spinal fusion done or physical therapy and bear the pain I felt hopeless
because of the long-term effects of fusion. Although I was able to get
the pain to a bearable level with physical therapy, I was still constantly
feeling pain and my arm felt very strange and difficult to use. I did
my research on different options online and I am so lucky to have found Dr.
Schiffer’s website so that I could have the minimally invasive procedure
done on my neck instead of a spinal fusion. In addition I was able to
fax my MRI report to their office and talk with Michael on the phone that same
day about the procedure and what it entailed.
I had the surgery 8 months ago and immediately felt relief in my arm. I
took the 3 month recovery period seriously since I do not want to go through
the pain of disc problems again. I am back to working away on the computer
and swimming twice a week. I feel great. I can’t thank Dr.
Schiffer enough for how he has helped me. Before I felt like I could
never do sporadic movements, carry anything on my left side, go dancing or
just plain feel good and normal. Although I’ll always be a bit
cautious because of that experience, I feel like I am finally myself again.
