Dear Stanton:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the recent cervical
surgery you performed on me back in May 2001. Being a pain management
specialist I am well versed at both the benefits and the risks of
anterior cervical discectomies and fusions, and given my multilevel
disk pathology I had, along with left arm pain and left-handed weakness,
I was not willing to subject myself to an open procedure such as
an anterior discectomy with fusion (ACDF), and the possible long
term complications of fusions with acceleration of the degenerative
process above and below the fusion site. The cervical endoscopic
discectomy you performed on me was successful, and it did alleviate
my symptoms without the down sides of an ACDF.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your professionalism and advice in
helping me seek what I deemed the correct medical solution for my
problem.
